Drinking water
Drinking water quality is one of Viega's major fields of competence. Viega system solutions offer a maximum level of flexibility and make it possible for you to operate a fast, safe and completely hygienic drinking water supply system. On the following pages you find all information about drinking water, the various Viega solutions and relevant parameters according to the highest drinking water quality.
Viega maintains drinking water quality at the highest level.
On these pages we use the terms drinking water and potable water.
Potable water
= any water, either untreated or treated, which is intended for drinking, cooking, preparing food and drinks or, in particular, for further domestic purposes (e.g. personal hygiene, cleaning clothes)
Drinking water
= Water suitable for human consumption or use, having quality characteristics in accordance with the legal provisions of the EU guideline 98/93EG.
Chapter 1: Global importance
Drinking water is our most valuable food. Its cleanliness is crucial for our health and access to hygienic drinking water is a fundamental human right. The demands placed on drinking water hygiene and its global significance are correspondingly high.
Chapter 2: Keystones of potable water quality
Lukewarm, stagnant water is a breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, drinking water in buildings has to be kept at the right temperature and remain in motion to ensure proper hygiene. The basis for all this is the "effective radius of drinking water quality" with the four essential influencing variables. But even in advance, during the plannung and installation stages, preventive measures shall be taken to reduce rsisks from the beginning.
Chapter 3: Relevant parameters
There are different microbiological parameters which endanger health, if their concentration in drinking water is too high. Legionella, for example, are one of the most important triggers of environmental infections in all buildings. Chemical substances such as copper, nickel or lead must not be present in harmful concentrations in drinking water as well. We inform you about the most relevant parameters.
Chapter 4: Technical abnormalities
If microorganisms and pathogens multiply under unfavourable conditions, it is usually due to technical abnormalities. There are numerous possible technical defects, such as improper planning, improper work on the installation, or excessively high or low water temperatures.
