Data protection

Viega captures, saves and processes personal data only in the required scope. Your data is anonymised if possible. Data capturing, saving and processing takes place exclusively consistent with existing statutes. Viega strives to protect your data as optimally as possible. The security measures in force are state of the art. Your data is handled confidentially and protected against unauthorised or unintended forwarding. Data will neither be published nor forwarded to third parties without your express consent.

1. Data capture when this website is visited on the Internet

When you visit this website, the web server saves your visit in a log file. Up until it is deleted automatically, the following data is recorded in the process:

  • Your computer’s IP address
  • Date and time of the visit
  • Date, URL and amount of data retrieved
  • Identification data of your Internet browser and your computer’s operating system
  • Website from where you visited this website
  • Your Internet provider’s name

Viega is not able to assign this data to a specific person. The data is evaluated for statistical purposes and used to improve the offering.

2. Cookies

Viega uses cookies for its Internet pages, as such cookies enable the pages to be used more conveniently and otherwise specific functions cannot be executed. Cookies are small pieces of text information stored on your computer.

So-called ‘permanent’ cookies on the other hand remain on your computer and thus enable Viega to recognise you on the next occasion that you visit the website. However, you have the opportunity to prevent cookies from being saved on your own computer by altering the appropriate settings on your browser program.

In the following, we would like to explain which cookies are saved, the purpose of such and their expiry date:

3. Analysis tool

Some of the data captured when you visit this website is harnessed for statistical evaluation. The scope of the data is described in the following. The data is forwarded to our statistics service provider only, Webtrekk GmbH.

Viega uses the services of the Webtrekk GmbH company to capture statistical data about the use of our Internet offering and to optimise our offering accordingly. Webtrekk GmbH is certified by TÜV Saarland for data protection in the field of web controlling software. A part of the certification is an audit on site at Webtrekk in Berlin and in the hosting location, where the capturing and processing of tracking data is verified in terms of data protection conformity and data security.
The foundations of this certification were:

  • the ‘Data Protection - V1.3’ catalogue of requirements,
  • the statutory requirements on data protection,
  • the principles of IT security in a state-of-the-art manner based on IT basic protection according to BSI as well as ISO 27000,
  • the TR00969 test report.

As part of your visit to the website, some information is captured, transmitted by your browser and evaluated for our web auditing. The capturing takes place by way of a pixel integrated into every Internet page. The following data is captured:

  • Request (file name of the requested file)
  • Browser type/version (e.g.: Internet Explorer 6.0)
  • Browser language (e.g.: German)
  • Operating system in use (e.g.: Windows XP)
  • Browser window’s internal resolution
  • Screen resolution
  • JavaScript activation
  • Java On/Off
  • Cookies On/Off
  • Colour depth
  • Referrer URL (the previously visited Internet page)
  • IP address – is anonymised immediately and deleted again after processing
  • Time of the visit
  • Clicks

The IP address is transmitted as part of each server query to enable the server to know where to send the answer. The IP address is received by anyone connecting to the Internet from an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and the ISP can trace which IP address was assigned to which of its customers at which time. As soon as the IP address is saved, the identity of the subscriber can be obtained in theory via the ISP. Our statistics service provider and we save the IP address therefore only in a shortened (anonymous) form and use it only to recognise the session, for geolocalisation (down to the town/city level) and to avert attacks. The IP address is then deleted again immediately, meaning that the captured data is then anonymous, and the identity of the user can no longer be obtained even via the ISP.
